High school sports to have full weekend By MICHAEL
BOYLAN
All extracurricular activities for our local schools resumed on Wednesday, so barring any other unfortunate events, the weekend schedule of high school athletics will be played. A big showdown will take place in Newnan between the Newnan Cougars and the Starr's Mill Panthers. Newnan is 2-0 and has scored a total of 88 points in their first two games. Starr's Mill is 1-1 and is coming off an overtime win over the Fayette County Tigers, thanks to an impressive defensive effort. This game could help deterimine subregion supremacy. East Coweta (2-0) travels to Twelve Oaks stadium in Hampton to take on Forest Park. The Indians have a high powered offense and a strong defense and will look to remain undefeated against the Panthers. McIntosh (0-1) gets back into action this Friday with their home opener against the Morrow Mustangs (). The Chiefs established a good running game in the first half of their game with Fayette County, but will have to play a full four quarters to take a win from Morrow. Sandy Creek (0-2) has faced two ranked opponents in Class AAAA so far this season. The Patriots get a small break this week as they have their first game at home this season and face Pickens, a team from 7-AAA. The Patriots would like to see a good effort from their offense as they have only scored six points so far this season. Our Lady of Mercy (2-1) hosts their first Friday night game as they take on Blessed Trinity Catholic High School. The Bobcats have shown great things, winning two consecutive games. They have a solid running game and a defense that has made key stops and turnovers. Landmark Christian (2-0) has already doubled their win total from last season and will host Athens Academy tonight. The War Eagles have put up a lot of points and have done a good job of limiting their opponents scoring opportunities. Pace Christian will host Fayette Christian, their rival, for their homecoming game. Pace Christian plays their home games at McCurry Park in Fayetteville. All kickoffs are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. In cross country, McIntosh and Fayette County High School will send their squads to Carrollton High School, site of the state meet this year, for the Carrollton Invitational, Saurday morning at 9 a.m. McIntosh and Starr's Mill will send their volleyball teams to compete in the East/West Invitational on Saturday and Starr's Mill will also have their softball team competing in the North Cobb tournament, which begins this afternoon.
