The Shakerag Festival in Peachtree City started 25 years ago, around the same time as the Founders Day festival in Tyrone began.

Shakerag is known for its wide selection of arts and crafts exhibitors, set up at Shakerag Knoll off McIntosh Trail in Peachtree City. The Shakerag Festival returns this Saturday and Sunday, promising some old favorites as well as some new artists and craftspeople.

There is no admission fee to browse around the festival and, as always, there will be a section for children featuring a petting zoo, face painting and games. Lots of festival food also will be sold by local church groups and civic organizations.

There will also be entertainment during the festival. The Peachtree Wind Ensemble will perform Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

Vendors come from Georgia and the entire Southeast region. Familiar country crafts, clothing, paintings, wood items, furniture, stained glass, jewelry and soft sculpture all blend to make a varied and creative show. "Get started on Christmas shopping," says Susan Taylor, event coordinator. "There is something for everyone. Come enjoy our food, entertainment and wonderful wares."

This event will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Organizers of the festival invite everyone to spend the weekend in rustic Fayette County leisurely shopping and enjoying their autumn celebrations. Phone Susan Taylor at 770-631-2542.
