Attention, amphitheater fans: rock bands play loud music

Upon reading Cynthia Freeman's letter commenting on the "Chastain-level volume" of the Marshall Tucker Band concert, I felt compelled to respond. Had Ms. Freeman done research prior to arriving at the concert, she would have realized that the Marshall Tucker Band is, in fact, a rock band.

Common sense dictates that a rock band is louder than either Judy Collins or Bobby Vinton, both of whom Ms. Freeman mentioned as acts she enjoyed seeing. I don't recall either of the above-mentioned acts winning any awards in the rock'n'roll category, but I have been able to hear those concerts while standing on my driveway, which is approximately a mile from the amphitheater. Any concert, be it classical or harder rock'n'roll, is going to be loud!

Blaming Kristi Rapson for not enforcing the volume level at the Marshall Tucker Band concert is complete hogwash. Should I insist on having earplugs delivered to my home on those occasions on which I can hear the music from the amphitheater? I think not!

Ms. Rapson does a great job of finding diverse musical acts which are advertised before the concert date. This allows patrons to choose which groups to go see. Just as Ms. Rapson has the right to book different acts, Ms. Freeman has the right not to go to those concerts which may be too loud.

To Kristi Rapson, keep up the good work and keep on rocking! To Cynthia Freeman, get over it! Plug your ears, just as I have plugged mine to your complaint.
