The McIntosh Chiefs boys and girls cross country teams began their season with wins last Thursday against Sandy Creek High School.

Both squads captured the first seven places in their respective races to defeat Sandy Creek 15-50.

The top seven finishers for the boys were Shaun Emery, 17:09; Randy Hutchinson, 18:04; Anthony Collier-Quinn, 18:41; Mike Bowman, 18:58; Clint Adams, 19:23; John Powers, 19:51, and Ben Brantly, 19:52. The top seven finishers for the girls were Dana Van Winkle, 21:28; Elizabeth Gardner, 21:45; Judy Thomasson, 22:21; Mary Crofton, 22:33; Tori Fratto, 23:50; Tabitha Lowey, 23:58, and Megan Spencer, 24:00.

Coach Charles Buckle has high hopes for both squads this year. The girls are led by four seniors, the top four finishers, who captured the state title as freshmen. The boys squad is looking to be one of the top squads in the region and to get back to the state championship race.

McIntosh will race at the Twilight Invitational in Carrollton tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. The course at Carrollton High School will be the state meet course this year and the Chiefs will race there on a number of occasions this season in order to get comfortable with the nuances of the course.
