Why is our D.A. on Democrat crusade to ban video poker?

Why is our [District Attorney William McBroom] off to Atlanta in his taxpayer financed car to promote the governor's attack on video poker? Is it because Mr. McBroom was appointed in 1995 by Democrat Zell Miller? Is it because he does not have enough murders, rapes, assaults, home invasions and other violent crimes to worry about?

I am a Republican and game owner and I do not appreciate our Democrat D.A., from an overwhelmingly Republican county, rushing off to support a Democrat initiative.

Are some Republicans against games? Yes, but no ideological Republican believes in stomping out a legal industry just because some people object to it and the overwhelmingly Democrat D.A.s Association is in opposition.

D.A.s are executives charged with enforcing the laws. They have no business trying to dictate the laws. A couple of days ago, Rep. Lynn Westmoreland, R-Sharpsburg, told me that the D.A.s Association is now in the driver's seat on this issue. D.A.s advocating, making, and enforcing laws is getting too close to some of our most horrible worldwide political experiences of the past century.

Let's get back to constitutional government and get the D.A. back in his local office doing the people's prosecutorial work in the county. If he wants to be a legislator, he needs to run for the job. Of course, he will have to become another of those instant shake and bake Republicans to win Fayette County.
