Georgia GOP wants its turn at public hog trough

In 1973 I supported, worked, and voted for Maynard Jackson to be mayor of Atlanta. Once elected, Maynard quickly instituted preferential hiring and promotional practices for unqualified blacks, created "minority" set-aside programs that discriminated against every racial group except blacks, grossly violated Atlanta Civil Service procedures and changed a typically corrupt (but efficient) medium-sized city government into a profoundly corrupt (and inefficient) "Li'l' Chicago" that would have been at home in Southside Chicago during the height of Prohibition.

At a 1974 street party held in the Midtown Atlanta community I got a chance to personally talk to Hizzoner. At a point in our conversation I said, "Mayor Jackson, I'm concerned about your new minority set-aside policies that "

Maynard interrupted me: "Mr. Bryan, here, talk to my head policy advisor."

"Mr. Bryan? Let me describe Mayor Jackson's plan for Atlanta: Whitey had his turn at the (public government) hog trough; now it's our turn. Do you understand?"

Maynard was standing nearby and looked like he was going to explode into laughter. Funny, cute, honest and despicable. Since then, Maynard, Andy and Bill have lived down to that corrupt vision for legally looting Atlanta.

Unfortunately, since the 1994 election where the GOP made enormous strides in acquiring political power with its principles "Contract with America," the national and Georgia GOPs have had a "Vision for Defeat," or "How to Wrest Defeat from the Jowls of Victory" by offending blacks, disgusting whites, and violating the ideas and ideals of the U.S. Constitution.

Part of the GOP losing platform:

1. Blacks are inferior. Therefore, blacks will always need action and minority set-aside programs to compete with whites, Jews and Orientals.

[It's a] loathsome view of blacks, but the current Bush Administration Justice Department is currently advocating and defending affirmative action and minority set-aside programs for minorities.

2. Save the government public schools at all costs! If it means destroying poor and middle class kids especially poor black kids so be it.

Pathetic. In the last few weeks Republicans and Democrats overwhelmingly voted to dramatically increase funding for one of the greatest enemies of kids and quality education, the U.S. Department of Education. Save government schools, damn the kids.

3. Destroy private health care in America.

Socialistic. Privately run HMOs have a patient and customer satisfaction level between 80 and 95 percent. Government-run Medicare, Medicaid and VA health care have satisfaction levels 50 to 20 percent. Why then does the GOP wish to destroy HMOs and private healthcare and nationalize U.S. Healthcare?

4. Georgia GOP supported Mack Mattingly to run for U.S. senator in 2000.

Wasted. Years ago I supported and voted for Mattingly, for U.S. senator; and quickly found out that "Talmadge, drunk, was better than Mattingly, sober."

Fittingly, Mattingly was not reelected. So why did the Georgia GOP favor a Milquetoast Mattingly over a principled Jordan in 2000?

So really, why should Georgians vote for Republicans? Let Republicans run Georgia for a change? A change to what? So Republicans can have their turn at the hog trough?
