Stunt-A-Thon benefits breast cancer prevention and awareness Premier Activities Center in Peachtree City is teaming up with the Georgia Breast Cancer Coalition and several local area cheerleading squads, dancers and martial artists to fight breast cancer with the first-ever Stunt-A-Thon. Scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 25 and taking place at the Fayette County Kiwanis Fairgrounds, the Stunt-A-Thon will feature dozens of performers who will each perform 100 cheerleading/dance moves or stunts. Martial arts students will throw 100 kicks. Participants will raise money by enlisting personal sponsorships for their performances. A cheerleading clinic will start at 9 a.m. This event will be sponsored by the United Cheerleading Association. The Stunt-A-Thon will begin at 11 a.m. and will run until about 4 p.m. A food and drink concession stand will be open during this time. "Our company works with and coaches many preteen, teenage children and young adults in the community," said Tony Penaloza, CEO of Premier Activities Center. "We feel that raising breast cancer awareness and prevention at an early age can greatly reduce the number of lives that this disease will claim. We believe that this event will empower others to join the fight." According to the American Cancer Society, almost 183,000 women in the United States will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer this year, of which more than 40,000 will likely die. Though 100 times less likely to have the disease, men can also contract breast cancer. Excluding skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer in women and the leading killer. "Our goal is to raise $15,000 for breast cancer education and awareness," said Tony Penaloza. "Through our local business sponsorships, the community, cheerleading squads and martial arts studio, we believe it is possible to achieve this goal ... maybe, Lord willing, even surpass the goal." Each participant is expected to raise a minimum of $100 in personal sponsorships, of which $35 goes to his or her squad, effectively making the Stunt-A-Thon a fund-raiser for participating cheerleading squads and dance programs. The Stunt-A-Thon is open to the public. Admission is $5 per person, with children under age 5 admitted free. Parking is $2 per vehicle.
