If you are looking for the "real deal" in entertainment this weekend, perhaps you should participate in some of the events in the eighth annual Evander Holyfield's Main Event Weekend 2001. There will be a golf tournament, black tie gala, silent and live auction, Kidfest and softball tournament, an after-party and a gospel brunch. Proceeds will benefit the QuickSilver Track Club, the American Association of Adapted Sports Program and Georgia Amateur Boxing Association, and will also help fund the construction of the Holyfield Youth Center, a state-of-the-art athletic and academic complex in the Greenbriar community of Atlanta. The golf tournament, which will take place at Chateau Elan Winery and resort in Braselton, kicks off the weekend with an 8 a.m. shotgun start Friday, Aug. 24. Each team will consist of four players with one celebrity spot. An awards dinner will follow the event. Individual tickets are $300. The evening will conclude with a black tie gala featuring silent and live auctions on autographed memorabilia, fur coats, exotic vacations and original art pieces. The gala will take place at the Fox Theatre at 6:30 p.m. and Arista Records Antonio "L.A." Reid is one of the awards recipients this year. Kidfest, a fun-filled day for the whole family, will take place at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic High School, beginning at 11 a.m. There will be a celebrity softball game, a slam dunk contest sponsored by the National Dunking Association of America, carnival rides, a kids concert featuring Lil' Zane and friends, cowboys, great concessions and more. The event is cosponsored by the Atlanta Hawks and will include guest appearances by Chris Webber, Alonzo Mourning Dominique Wilkins and the Atlanta Hawks dancers. The evening will culminate in an after-party at The tabernacle in Atlanta at 9 p.m. The weekend concludes with a gospel brunch at Planet Hollywood in Atlanta from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be an assortment of food and musical performances.
