Good for
Boylan; otherwise, singles' scene the pits here
In response to "For whom the wedding bells toll" by Michael Boylan dated July 18: Kudos to Boylan for the entrance into this great rite of passage and for the well-written article bringing to light the real dearth of social activity for the younger single girl or guy. I do happen to know what's happening. I attended "Singles' Night by Laura" at the American Legion log cabin a couple of years ago, and guess what I found yes, middle-aged or older divorcees, not a guy my age in sight. The only other gathering place we had was The Market which went bust, and I'm way too mature for a place geared for snotty, self-indulgent teenagers. Likewise as Boylan said, all the boys I know have moved away, gone off to college or gotten married or still in high school. I live in the suburbs where everyone is heavily married, raising a family and little regards go to a single woman or man. I have a friend, or acquaintance, rather (he's in his early 30s) who backed me up on the meager singles scene. To hear him tell it, I think his last steady went back to when he went to school in Atlanta. Other than church, very little in Fayetteville is geared for meeting new people, and I'm not interested in any older divorcees. How are we in the singles scene expected to mix and mingle around here? Thanks to Mr. Boylan, for inspiring me to make a social change. J. M. Name withheld by request
