Sports Briefs

Jon Sellers, son of Jerry and Diane Kelly of Fayetteville, completed the Georgia Tech Football Camp this summer. Hopefully his newly learned skills will help the Fayette Christian School Falcons off to a great start this season.

The Peachtree City Police Department placed first in the annual Fayette County Public Safety Competition. The Fayette County Recreation Department established these games to give the Fayette public safety personnel an opportunity to compete in a friendly environment.

This year's competition included a 5K run, tennis tournament, volleyball tournament, fishing contest, bicycle obstacle course, homerun derby and softball tournament among other events.

The Peachtree City Police Department won the overall competition with 47 points scored, while the Fayette County Fire Department finished in second place with 28 points. The Fayette County Sheriff's Department finished in third place with 18 points.

The Our Lady of Mercy Catholic High School cheerleaders attended a National Cheerleaders Association camp this summer and left with a number of team and individual awards. The team won a number of blue ribbons and spirit sticks and was recognized as the squad showing the most sincere spirit and enthusiasm.

Lenneia Batiste earned the All-American award, which is the most prestigious award in cheerleading. She competed against over 350 cheerleaders from the surrounding area and was judged on motion technique, jumps, tumbling, spirit and enthusiasm. She is the first ever All-American from Our Lady of Mercy and is now eligible to perform at various NCA special events.
