The Optimist Club of Peachtree City will offer a tennis clinic Saturday, Aug. 11 at the Peachtree City Tennis Center from 9 a.m.-noon. The clinic is open to ages 6-10 years old and 11-15 years old. Atlanta Braves pitcher John Smoltz will sign autographs on Saturday, Aug. 11 for "Strike Out Hunger." Fans should bring 10 cans of food or $10 to Turner Field between the hours of 2-3 p.m.

The Peachtree City Tennis Center's ladies beginner tennis league is having registration for their upcoming season. The league is a great way to meet new players and to learn the game. The season begins August 17. Phone 770-486-9474.

Fayette County Middle School will have a volleyball club starting Aug. 20. The club will meet two afternoons a week at the New Hope Baptist Church sports facility and will be led by Joe Cockrell. The cost will be $80 per participant. Call 678-471-1041.

The Soccer Centre in Fayetteville announces registration for Fall Indoor Muppet Soccer, a league for four and five year oldsborn between Aug. 1, 1995 and July 31, 1997. AFC Lightning is currently seeking boys for their U-11 Bronze team and U-12 Bronze team. Anyone interested in playing for the 2001-2002 seasons should contact the Lightning offie at 770-460-8070.

The 25th Annual Newnan-Coweta Festival Days Road Race will take place Sept. 1 at the new City Hall. The netry fee is $15 if received by 8-27-01 and $18 after 8-27-01. The 1 mile walk/run begins at 7:45 a.m. and the 5k race begins at 8 a.m. Phone 770-253-2270.

The Peachtree City Optimist Club is hosting its 12th annual golf tournament Sept. 10, at the Flat Creek Country Club in Peachtree City. The 30th Annual Southeastern Charity Horse Show, Sept 19-22, at the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers. Show times are Wednesday through Saturday at 7 p.m. with matinees on Friday at 11 a.m. and Saturday at 10 a.m. Tickets for evening performances are $5 while matinee performances are free. The "Play It Again Pete" golf tournament in support of the Homeless Veterans program, will take place on Monday, Oct. 1 at Fort McPherson at noon. The tournament will be a Ft. System U Speed is now recruiting people interested in the highly competitive sport of inline speed skating. The team is currently practicing Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 4:30 to 6:30 at the Newnan Skate Palace.
