The National Doll Festival began in 1988 in Anaheim, Calif.

Since then, there have been stops in Chicago, New Orleans, San Francisco, St. Louis and Atlanta. The National Doll Festival has become a traveling spectacular since that first event 13 years ago and has attracted hundreds of internationally esteemed dealers and artists from all over North America, Europe and Australia. The show returns to Atlanta Aug. 4-8.

The National Doll Festival includes the National Antique Doll Festival and the International Artists Showcase. There are exhibits, a buyer's and appraisal clinic, vendors and a preview sale. The show is geared to everyone from novice collectors to aficionados. There are Teddy bears and toys of every possible description, antique and collectible dolls, beanie babies and more.

Within the exhibits, prices will range from moderate to very expensive. Recently, a French antique doll went for $95,000, while another record was set when an original artist-made Teddy Bear fetched $4,500.

The festival will take place at the Atlanta Sheraton Hotel, Georgia Hall. Preview sale hours are 5-9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4. General admission hours will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Tuesday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Admission for the preview sale is $25 and includes a four-day pass to the festival. General admission is $14 per person and is good for all days of the event. Children under 12 are admitted free. Phone 831-438-5349 or e-mail NATLDOLL@aol.com.
