Local soccer team to host German squad Thursday

The Atlanta Raptors, an under-14 soccer team including Fayette Lightning players, will host a similar team from Mannheim, Germany for the next two weeks in a series of games around Atlanta.

The Mannheim Futball Club will play the Raptors at McCurry Park in Fayetteville Thursday at 2 p.m. on field 25.

Local families are hosting the Mannheim players as part of an exchange program which the Raptors used to tour Germany last year.

The Mannheim Futball Club, one of the oldest soccer clubs established in Germany, has produced a number of Olympic class players and promises to bring world class competition for the Raptors.

The Raptors are composed of players from the Fayette Lightning, the Brookwood Soccer Club and the Gwinnett County Soccer Association. The Raptors are coached by John Franklin.
