Hunting extravaganza

Buckarama promises biggest show yet

Every year the Georgia Wildlife Federation hosts the largest trade show of its kind in the world Buckarama and this year's show in Atlanta is bigger and better than ever, said a show spokesman..

Headlining this year's show is Steve McKenna, a veteran hunter and wildlife enthusiast. He was a guide and camp cook in Alaska for years before opening a 5,200-acre hunting ranch in Mississippi in 1985. He outfits hunts for whitetail deer, eastern turkey, and Russian boar. His seminars teach how to increase horn size through proper food planting and how to choose the right outfitter for you.

Another stellar speaker at Buckarama this year will be big game hunter Rodney Kelly. Kelly has many additions to his North American big game collection and will be bringing it with him. See black bear, moose, mountain goat and elk all in full mount display then check out the big screen to see how Kelly took each of these animals in the wild.

Galen Shinkle will demonstrate his trick shooting archery and will also offer free archery classes for kids. Prizes will be awarded in each class and all youngsters are welcome.

Perhaps the biggest star at this year's Buckarama is Okefenokee Joe, who teaches about wildlife and the importance of respecting nature. He will bring his guitar and sense of humor with him, as well as his collection of live snakes.

As always there will be bargains on hunting equipment and clothing, door prizes and more. Buckarama is a fund-raiser for the Georgia Wildlife Federation. Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for seniors and children ages 6-12. Children under 6 are admitted free.

Buckarama will take place at the Atlanta Expo Center Aug. 2-5. The Atlanta Expo Center is off I-285 at exit 55. Parking is free.
