SCAT swimmers win top honors at Georgia championship meet

Two swimmers on the Southern Crescent Aquatic Team recently earned several first-place finishes at the 14 and under State Championships.

Lauren Cartwright, 12, of Peachtree City won first place in the 400-meter individual medley, the 200 individual medley and 200 freestyle. She also placed second in the 200 butterfly and third in the 100 freestyle and 100 butterfly.

Joseph Redmon, 14, of Newnan won first place in the 100 breaststroke and the 200 butterfly. He took second in the 100 freestyle, the 200 individual medley, the 100 butterfly and the 50 freestyle.

Cartwright was also chosen to Georgia's "zone team" which will compete with teams from North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Texas and the Gulf States for a swim meet championship. Senior swimmer Hilary White of Peachtree City also qualified for the zone team.

The zone team is comprised of the top seven swimmers in their respective age groups based on their performance in the state championship meet.

Cartwright is ranked nationally in the 400 individual medley, the 100 freestyle and the 200 breaststroke. Redmon is ranked nationally in the 50 and 100 freestyles, the 100 breaststroke, the 100 and 200 butterfly and the 200 individual medley.

Their coach this year was Wil Bayer.

Other SCAT swimmers who competed in the state championships were Bailey Cartwright, Casey DeRidder, Pharan Evans, MacKenzie Garrot, Katelyn Goodheart, Jordan Gore, Jessica Heimann, Georgia Highscmith, Kristen Pretzer, David Menchinger, Peter Menke, Alex Harmon and Zachary Payne.
