Sports stars on hand to open Just For Feet

Fayette Family YMCA will benefit from a private party Saturday to celebrate the opening of Just for Feet's 91st store, at Fayette Pavilion.

The store also plans a full weekend of activities open to the public.

Proceeds from the party at the 15,000-sq. ft. super store will be donated to provide YMCA scholarships to children in need.

"The Fayette Family YMCA is thrilled to have support from Just For Feet," said Pam Young, executive director. "These proceeds will broaden our YMCA's ability to build strong kids, strong families, strong communities and proactively engage over 1,000 youths and teens," said Rod Arion, YMCA board chairman.

Young said more than 2,000 youths are involved in programs such as summer day camp, swim lessons, Indian Guides and the Fayette Family Play Park.

Invitations are in the mail for the fund-raiser.

Saturday and Sunday, several sports superstars will visit the store to sign autographs, and a lucky customer will win a 2001 Jeep Wrangler.

The Harlem Globetrotters will perform Saturday 9 a.m. to noon, and famed Hall of Fame former Braves pitcher Phil Niekro will be on hand from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. WWF wrestler Faarooq will swing by from 1-3 p.m., and NBA free agent Tyrone Corwin will be there from 3-5 p.m.

Kenny Anderson of the Boston Celtics will appear Sunday from 1-2 p.m., and the Falcon cheerleaders will give a special performance from 2-3 p.m.
