PTC girl raises funds for Animal Shelter By MICHAEL
BOYLAN Emily Long loves animals. Long is 9 years old and is a student at St. Paul Lutheran School in Peachtree City. She has a dog, a hamster, fish, two hermit crabs and a frog. Her love of animals has also recently led her to raise over $40 for the spay and neuter fund at the Fayette County Animal Shelter. The fund provides a discount for the spaying and neutering of adopted animals. It is also a way to deal with the serious overpopulation of stray animals. Long got the idea to help from a few of her friends who had raised money for the fund before. She began her fund-raising efforts in April and sold cookies and drinks, sought donations from neighbors and used money from pet sitting, the tooth fairy and from getting good grades. "I got most of the money from pet sitting," Long said. "I really love animals and wanted to help." Long plans to raise more money for the fund in the future and, with her dedication to the cause and her love for animals, she is sure to outdo herself soon. |
