Book filled with activites for the family in and around Atlanta By MICHAEL

There are still a few more weeks before school starts again and you and your children may have exhausted the local entertainment venues. If you are interested in finding some new activities to occupy your time this summer or on the weekends during the school year, pick up a copy of "Around Atlanta With Children: A Guide to Family Activities." The book was written by Denise Black and Janet Schwartz, both from Decatur. The two women traveled to each location in the book with their children and have complete information on each location including directions, admission costs, hours of operation and special items of interest. The book is now in its sixth edition and has been updated to include activities for older children, Web sites and improvements and additions at the venues. Black and Schwartz have also combined to write "The Complete Guide To Atlanta's Ethnic Communitites." The book consists of six major parts; Major Attractions, More Good Things To Do, Performing Arts For Children, Sports and Recreation, Festivals and Special Events and Day Trips. There are separate chapters in each part as well as an index and a chapter on suggestions for activities. The Major Attractions section of the book includes descriptions of places that are familiar to most Georgia residents like Six Flags, Stone Mountain and American Adventures, but also mentions places like the Federal Reserve Monetary Museum and the Sweet Auburn District. The More Good Things to Do section mentions nature preserves, small history museums, small art museums, tours of the working world and more. Other sections of the book highlight such venues as The Center for Puppetry Arts, Turner Field, The Heritage Arts Festival and day trips to places like Athens, Macon and Chattanooga. There are more than 350 pages of places and events to visit in "Around Atlanta For Children" and one gets the feeling that it is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to family activities in the Atlanta area.
