The fall season of high school athletics is right around the corner. In fact, the Sandy Creek Lady Patriots volleyball team begins conditioning next week.

Under new head coach, Paul Combs, the team will meet Monday, July 23 at sandy Creek High School from 4-6 p.m. for conditioning. Practice and tryouts begin the following Monday from 4-6 p.m. Incoming freshmen interested in playing volleyball must get a physical before they will be allowed to practice.

Combs takes over for Coach James Slayton, who took the Lady Patriots deep into the state tournament last year. Combs has coached for four years in Montana and last year he coached at Jackson high School in Butts County. He has met some of the girls from this year's varsity squad as they have had open gym during the summer.

"I'm really looking forward to the season," said Combs. "Coach Slayton left a good program and it should be an exciting season."

The season begins Aug. 11 with a jamboree at Starr's Mill High School. Matches are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. The home opener for Sandy Creek will be Aug. 16 as the Lady Patriots take on Newnan and Banneker.
