Wynnmeade, tired of 'stepchild' status, gears up to oppose 107-home addition

Perhaps you missed the very small notice in the local paper concerning yet another planned subdivision on the west side of Peachtree City. If some in the city and the developers have their way, it will be built at the north end of Wynnmeade subdivision.

Well, you might say, why does this concern me?For the sake of time and limited space, let's consider just the traffic.Have you ever been stuck in the traffic mess at the intersection of Ga. highways 54 and 74?

There are already two subdivisions being built, in addition to the recently built Summit Apartments. This new subdivision, North Wynnmeade, will add 107 homes to PTC's already increasingly crowded conditions.

Think about all the retail centers and residential dwellings that have sprung up in the past few years, as well as the ones which are planned (remember Wal-Mart and Home Depot). Where does it end?

Wynnmeade subdivision has been the "stepchild" of PTC for many, many years. It has been too easy for some in the city to forget about us because we are literally "on the wrong side of the tracks." Now, the city has suddenly decided, Hey, we have our stepchild, let's go visiting.

Well, Wynnmeade is no one's stepchild. We, the homeowners, are not going to sit idly by while the "big bucks" destroy our community, your community.

Yes, like it or not, it is your community as well.We are a city, a community. We are your friends and neighbors. We attend your churches, our children attend the same schools as your children, and of course, we all pay taxes to PTC that help make our city a great place to live. What concerns one should concern all.

On July 9, the proposed North Wynnmeade subdivision was on the agenda of the Planning Commission.Wynnmeade residents were there to voice their objections to this plan. But suddenly the developers decided they just weren't ready to present their plan and the issue was tabled.Could it be that they heard that the residents of Wynnmeade were not going to be railroaded by them or a particular few in the city?

Citizens and friends, if you care about Peachtree City and the development that is taking our community, our city, our way of life, then join us in our fight!

Yes, it will be a fight. The next Planning Commission meeting will be July 23 at 7 p.m. at the City Hall building.Mark this day on your calendar. Please help us say, "No way!" to this development. The next victim could be your subdivision. Thank you, our friends, for your help.
