Living next to a power plant, you will get the tailpipe We are residents of western Coweta County, severely and negatively impacted by the construction and operation of the recently completed Tenaska and Dynegy natural-gas-fired merchant power generation plants, operating in Heard County, virtually on the Coweta County line. We have been following with dismay the efforts of the Williams Company in their attempt to build a similar, though much larger plant in South Fulton, virtually on the Fayette County line. We feel compelled to sound the alarm to you folks living in Fayette, before it is too late to stop this monster. We live within three-quarters of a mile of both Tenaska and Dynegy, and here is how it really is. These plants are loud, they are nasty, they sound just like the airport, they are terribly offensive, they smell bad, and the industrial lighting they use has taken away our stars. They have taken away our peace and quiet, and they have done a very effective job of degrading what used to be a nice, rural neighborhood. It is not too late for you folks to work to stop this. If the Fulton County Commission is looking at a tax gold mine with this $500-million mega-industrial complex, Fayette is going to get the shaft. More accurately, if Fulton gets the car, you folks in Fayette will get the tailpipe. All of the severe negative impacts that we now must live with do not respect county lines. You will get the increased air pollution, operating noise, construction disruptions, industrial lighting, dust, odor, and negative impacts of increased electromagnetic energy, and you will get no benefits. None. The folks who want to build this plant would like very much to pretend you simply don't exist. The Williams people are trying very hard to make this sound like peaches and cream, but it just ain't so. We know. We have heard it all before, and we are living with the reality of it now.
