Fayetteville resident named state's top engineer

The Georgia Society of Professional Engineers recently awarded Tammy Griffin of Fayetteville the 2000-2001 Engineer of the Year Award at the annual summer meeting in Savannah.

Griffin received her B.S. in industrial engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and her master's in business administration from Georgia State University. While in school, she was involved with the American Society of Quality and the praise team at her church. Upon graduation, she began her career with the Central Intelligence Agency. Currently, she is a consultant for Goody Products and developing a business intelligence consulting practice for K-12 education.

Griffin is a member of Clayton-Fayette-Henry GSPE and has held numerous offices including chapter president. She has been the chapter's Math Counts coordinator since 1993 and the Math Counts coordinator for state competition since 1998. She is the current president of GSPE and was honored by the group as the Young Engineer of the Year for 1993-1994.

Griffin has mentored and tutored many young students in her community and is active with the Fayetteville Church of God. She married Gary Griffin in 1999 and has two step-children, Matthew and Sarah.
