Southside Theatre Guild brings Charlie Brown and friends to life with classic musical By MICHAEL
BOYLAN
Whether you were watching Linus wait for the Great Pumpkin in the Charlie Brown Halloween special or you were more familiar with the Peanuts comic strip, Charlie Brown and his friends have endeared themselves to fans all over the world. There have been countless books, animated specials and cartoons created for the precocious group of children as well as a musical, which was recently revived on Broadway. That musical, "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown," will be performed at the Southside Theatre Guild in Fairburn Thursdays-Saturdays, July 12-28 at 8 p.m. The musical follows Charlie Brown and his friends Lucy, Linus, Schroeder and, of course, his best friend Snoopy, through a typical day. Charlie Brown wonders if the Little Red Haired Girl will ever notice him, Lucy wonders if she and Schroeder will ever get married and Linus wonders what he would do without his blanket. The Peanuts gang performs many vignettes in a variety of settings, including school, home, the baseball field, and a field on a starlit evening. "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown" is a treat for the entire family. The songs, such as "Happiness Is" and "The Book Report," are instantly memorable. The show reflects on life through the eyes of children with adult neuroses. It is also laugh-out-loud funny, much like the classic comics by the late Charles Schulz.
