Fun for the family at this year's July Jam By MICHAEL
BOYLAN
The entire family is invited to come out to Heritage Park and Stonewall Village in downtown Fayetteville Saturday, July 14 for a day full of fun, games and entertainment. July Jam is a party for all of Fayette County and you're invited. Admission is free to both the festival and the concerts that evening. Stonewall Village will be turned into an amusement park with DixieLand Fun Machines supplying the rides. Dixieland Fun Machines is the sister company to Dixieland Fun Park. Beginning at 10 a.m. kids of all ages will be able to ride many of the same attractions that they love at DixieLand. Rides will include the Dragonfly, a giant slide, the Fun House Bouncer, the Rock-N-Roll, Dixie Whirlybird and the Dixieland Fun Park Train. For the more daring there will be a giant rock-climbing wall, hosted by Portable Rock Climbing Adventures. Once you've tried out the rides you'll want to "Follow the Yellow Brick Road" over to Emerald City's Ice Cream booth and meet none other than one of the original Munchkins. Mickey Carroll, one of the 30 remaining Munchkins in "The Wizard of Oz," will be signing photos and telling stories about life at the other end of the rainbow. Emerald City Ice Cream will soon open in Fayetteville and the booth will give county residents a taste of what's to come. If you think you've got game and you're ready for a little friendly competition, you'll want to find Just for Feet's tent and shoot a few hoops with former Harlem Globetrotter Michael Johnson. When it is time to relax, head over to the Barnes and Noble tent. There will be something going on in the tent all day with professional storytellers and, of course, a sampling of all of their children's books will be available. There will also be an entertainment tent for kids with a full schedule of events. Magic, face painting and puppet shows are just a few of the surprises that are in store for the kids at Main Street's July Jam. Kids will also have their own concert this year beginning at 5 p.m., featuring Rick Hubbard and his All Kid Kazoo Band. Audience involvement is the key, and every child will receive a complimentary kazoo sponsored by Fayette Music Merchants, holding company for A Major Music.com. on the square in Fayetteville. The party continues for the entire family at 7 p.m. as the beat goes on with the second Beat on Main Street free concert. Shag to the beach sounds of The Coastline Band, or simply bring your lawn chair and picnic basket and watch the band perform. Immediately following the Coastline Band, the world renowned Robert Lee Smith and The Original Tams take the stage.
