The Fayette County High School black squad ended its summer schedule in the Fourth of July Shootout in Carrollton and, according to coaches, team members played their best baseball of the season.

The team went 5-0 in the tournament, winning the championship and out-scoring opponents 40-2.

The tournament began with a doubleheader June 27. The first game was against Central of Carollton High School and Fayette County Black won 15-0. Jeff Crisp and Steven West both went three for three at the plate, while Kyle Martin went one for three. The second game was against McEachern High School and Crisp was the winning pitcher in a 5-1 victory. Key hits came from Jeb Thaxton, Justin White and Brandon Holliday.

The team resumed play Friday with a game against Hardaway. Fayette County Black had another game of super offense and flawless defense, an 8-0 win. Devon Stillions was three for three from the plate and drove in two runs, while Blake Mask drove in two runs while he went two for three with a home run. Jason Hardwick, Garrett White and Steven West each went one for three at the plate with an RBI.

Saturday's game pitted Fayette County Black against South Gwinnett. The team won 11-1 and Justin White was the winning pitcher. Sam Beck went three for three at the plate and drove in two runs, while White and West each went two for three and drove in a run.

Fayette County Black faced McEachern in the final and this game was much closer. The game was tied 0-0 until the bottom of the seventh inning. Stillions got on base with a single and was driven in by a huge hit from Jason Hardwick. Crisp was the winning pitcher for Fayette County Black, which played a great tournament as a JV team on its way to varsity next year.
