Large pot won at Senoia Speedway last weekend

Tyrone's Scott Griffin led all 100 laps of the Bill Heard Chevrolet Pro Late Model Series Feature for his fourth win of the season at Senoia Speedway last Saturday, moving him into the points lead.

Griffin gave thanks and praise to his crew chief, Danny Peeples, and the entire RS Motorsports crew for hanging in there after the 2000 season points champ stumbled in the months of April and May.

Griffin captured the largest payoff of the season to a single winner, collecting $4,100. A sponsor of the 92.5 "The Bear" car, Larry Hunt of The Aviation Group, Inc., donated an additional $1,000 to the normal $3,000 to the winner of the night's Big 8 in memory of Billy Fuentes of Peachtree City, who passed away recently.

The next Bill Heard Chevrolet Big 8 feature will be July 21. Pro Late Models will be racing in Senoia Speedway's regular feature tomorrow night.

Hampton's Stan Barge jumped out of his second-place starting position at the drop of the green flag to take the lead in the Street Stock Race at Senoia Speedway where he led to take the checkers.

In second, shadowing Barge to the finish, was Pike County's Larry Pierce, with Hampton's Jason Turner finishing third after spinning out in the first lap of the feature. Finishing fourth in the night's division was Landon DeGraff, with LaGrange's Keith Anderson finishing out the top five.

David Moore of Jonesboro captured back to back victories after spinning out in lap 5 and working his way diligently through the field for the win at Senoia Speedway Saturday in the Thunder Roadster Feature. Finishing behind Moore after swapping positions off and on throughout the race was Dale Akridge with Griffin's Lloyd Wittenburg finishing third.

Consistently in fourth and fifth almost throughout the feature were fourth- and fifth-place finishers Don Snyder and Bob Monette. Brett Hedger finished sixth.

It was an unforgettable last lap which drastically changed the outcome of the night's race in the Bandoleros division. Ryan Gatlin of Fayetteville looked as if he would win his first race of the 2001 season at Senoia as he led from the eighth lap to the final lap when something when wrong with the his car. Gatlin dropped back on the back stretch during the final lap with Sharpsburg's Matt Peeples pushing him to the line. Finally Peeples made a move to get around Gatlin to try for the win. Meanwhile Sharpsburg's Marcia Bristol and first timer Tina Johnson split the action with the guys by taking the sides going three wide across the finish line. It was a photo finish, but the score keepers quickly decided Tina Johnson beat Bristol and Peeples to the line.

Ty Stewart led from start to finish in the Mini Stock Feature Saturday night at Senoia Speedway for his fifth win of the season. Following Stewart throughout the race was Griffin's Cary Hamilton with Gay's Troy French moving up from his last place starting position to finish third. Stephen Adams and Jeremy Miller finished fourth and fifth to round out the top five.

Last week's winner Bobby East passed with only three laps remaining to take the checkers Saturday night for his fourth win of the season in the Legends YL/SP II Division Race at Senoia Speedway. Alpharetta's Michelle Theriault led every lap until East passed her leaving her with a second place finish. In third was Ron Johnson with Doug Ludwig finishing fourth. Tony Yawn, Jr. took the fifth position finishing the top five.

Hampton's Doug Stevens led from start to finish Saturday night in the Legends Pro division feature at Senoia Speedway for the win. Peachtree City's Reed Sorenson came from his eighth starting position to finish second with Locust Grove's Shane Upchurch awarded third. Chris Vaughan and Scott Tinsley swapped positions as Tinsley got a little loose on lap 19 awarding them fourth and fifth place finishes.

Pine Mountain's Bob Yarbrough captured his third win at Senoia Speedway Saturday night during the Sportsman feature as he moved up from his fifth place starting position to take the lead on lap 17. Union City's Rod Williford led from the start until Yarbrough got around him leaving Williford to finish second in the race. Finishing third was Brooks' Andy Cash who dropped back into the position after being passed by Yarbrough on lap 7.
