Emory women's track team honors local girls The Emory University women's outdoor track and field team finished 18th at the NCAA Division 3 national championships, with help from two Fayette County residents. It was the best finish in school history. In the final national poll of the season, Emory was ranked 25th. At the conference outdoor and indoor championships this year, Emory finished second, marking the 18th time in 28 University Athletic Association championships that Emory has finished first or second. Two Fayette County residents were presented with team awards at the end of the season. Celeste Lee, a Fayetteville resident and graduate from Landmark Christian School, received the Most Improved Performer award. She was the conference runner up in the 100-meter dash. Her best time of 12.8 seconds makes her the 10th fastest individual in school history in the event. Lee also earned all conference recognition during the indoor season by finishing third in the 55-meter dash. Peachtree City's Rachel Olon recieved the Most Inspirational Performer award. The McIntosh graduate earned all conference honors by finishing third in the 10,000-meter run at the University Athletic Association championships. She lowered her personal best times by more than two minutes in the 10,000-meter run and more than 17 seconds in the 5,000-meter run. |
