PTC Flash coaches set a good example on the track

Coach Harold Lovett and Assistant Sprinter Coach Al Gibbs from PTC Flash track and field team won their heats in the 200m, 400m, and 800m at the ATC Masters Track and Field Meet June 9 at Emory University.

Lovett won first place in the 400m (45-49 age category) with a time of 55:71 and also won first place in the 800m (45-49-age category) with a time of 2:10.18. These were also the second fastest overall times of the meet for both events.

Gibbs won first place in the 200m (35-38 age category) with a time of 23:86 and this was the second fastest overall time of the meet. Gibbs did not run in the 100m after he strained his lower abdominal muscle May 8 at the Open Invitational at Emory University. However, he did post a competitive time at the event by running 11.27 in the 100m and will attempt to lower that time at the Georgia Games next month.

This was the first official track and field meet for Lovett and Gibbs in several years, as they wanted to use the meet as a gauge for the Georgia Games next month. They wanted to run faster times, but the track was soft from early morning showers and it seemed that most runners were not posting fast times.

Lovett and Gibbs plan to run in the Jacksonville TC Summer Track Classic in Jacksonville, Fla., prior to the Georgia Games next month. However, they will conclude their season by running in the Championship Series at the Summer Track Classic in Peachtree City.

The coaches were elated about the win, but more importantly, are hoping the kids from PTC Flash really take note to their teaching next year. They know the kids always listen to their instruction, but hopes now they will believe these techniques really do work. The PTC Flash sent several members to the state meet this year in Augusta and hopes to send many more next year.
