Late Model race increases prize for this weekend

Tyrone's Scott Griffin took the lead from Roger Delp on the fourth lap in what would be the only challenge for the win of the caution-free Alan Vigil Southlake Ford 50 Pro Late Model feature at Senoia Speedway Saturday night.

Griffin's car was on a string this night as he opened up a very comfortable lead over the field cruising to his third win of the 2001 season.

Finishing second to Griffin was last week's winner Randy Bynum, climbing up from his eighth-place starting position with 16 laps remaining. Dothan, AL's Korey Ruble finished third after starting on the pole with a 13.913-sec. lap. Ruble dropped back as far as sixth place before mounting a charge that was very respectable for a rookie in his third race at Senoia Speedway.

The fourth 100-lap Bill Heard Chevrolet Big 8 Pro Late Model feature will be on tap for this weekend at Senoia Speedway. Instead of the normal $3,000 to the winner of the Big 8, the winnings have increased by $1,000 bringing the total up to $4,000 to the winner.

The $1,000 donation comes from Larry Hunt with the Aviation Group, Inc. in memory of his late brother in law, Peachtree City's Billy Feuntes. The 92.5 car will place a special memorial sticker on the car. Also, the car will move out in front of the Pro Late Models taking a special lap before the start of the feature in Feuntes' memory.

The Street Stock Double Points Special race was first on the agenda at Senoia Speedway Saturday night with only one caution during the 25-lap feature. Robbie "Go-Go" Gober, in his Chevy Malibu, led from start to finish around the 3/8-mile asphalt oval to take the checkers. Following Gober to the line in second was Hampton's Stan Barge who moved up from his fourth place starting position with Mark Lore finishing third. Pike County's Larry Pierce and Landon DeGraff finished fourth and fifth rounding out the top five.

During the night's second Street Stock race at Senoia Speedway Robbie Gober managed to work his way through the pack from his last place starting position for his second victory of the evening. In a repeat from the previous race Stan Barge and Mark Lore held on to finish second and third. In fourth was Landon DeGraff with Toby Bowden finishing fifth. The race went caution free for all 20 laps of the feature.

Griffin's Lloyd Wittenburg jumped from his third row starting position to take the lead before turn one during the first lap of the Thunder Roadster Feature Saturday night at Senoia Speedway. He went door to door with Jonesboro's David Moore for a few laps until lap 11 when Wittenburg spun out sending him to the rear. Moore led the remainder of the race uncontested to take the checkers for his second win of the season at Senoia Speedway.

Following Moore across the line in second was Dale Akridge in the Kids R Kids Roadster with Bob Monette following in third. Atlanta's Will Monette finished fourth and Lloyd Wittenburg was awarded a fifth place finish after spinning out and hitting the wall in the front straightaway.

Sharpsburg's Matt Peeples accomplished his third consecutive victory in the Bandoleros division at Senoia Speedway after working his way from his last place starting position Saturday night. Following Peeples to the line was second place finisher Trey Maughan who led up to the white flag lap of the feature.

In third was Brandon Jackson who stayed in his second place starting position until lap 11 when Peeples passed him to approach the front spot. Marcia Bristol of Sharpsburg, driving her new silver 54 car, finished fourth. Braselton's Marisa Prosser finished fifth respectively.

Saturday night's Double Points Special in the Mini Stock feature went caution free for all 25 laps with Ty Stewart leading from start to finish taking the checkered flag. Following Stewart the entire race in second was Griffin's Cary Hamilton with Fayetteville's Chris Weigman moving up from his seventh place starting position to finish third. Griffin's Mike Chambers finished fourth with Russell Shore rounding out the top five.

Bobby East clenched his third win of the season taking the lead with four laps to go at Senoia Speedway Saturday night in the Legends YL/SPII race after starting seventh. In second following East across the line was Craig Zoellner with Alpharetta's Michelle Theriault, who led for several laps during the feature, finishing third. Fourth and fifth place went to Tony Yawn, Jr. and Ron Johnson completing the top five.

Peachtree City's Reed Sorenson led from start to finish in the Legends Pro feature Saturday night at Senoia Speedway after two restarts which damaged 5 cars retiring them for the evening. Sorenson was followed by Andy James who held his second place starting position from start to finish. Finishing third was Beau Slocumb with eighth place starter Chris Vaughan of Williamson, GA finishing fourth. Finishing fifth was last week's winner Doug Stevens who borrowed a car from Doug Ludwig due to his car being damaged in a restart. Track officials allowed this to happen as there was not a lap recorded at the time of the five car accident.

Pine Mountain's Bob Yarbrough captured his second win of the season at Senoia Speedway in the Sportsman division Saturday night leading from start to finish. Last week's winner, Rod Williford, started last in the field, but moved up to finish second after being held up by the field in several laps. In third was Brooks' Andy Cash who held on to his second spot in the line up until Williford passed him on lap 17. Finishing fourth was Charles White with Mike Jenkins in fifth.
