Atlanta Fest celebrates 15th anniversary back at Six Flags By MICHAEL
BOYLAN
Six Flags Over Georgia is the site of thrilling rides like Ninja, Georgia Scorcher and the new Deja Vu roller coaster, but for the next four days it is also the site of Atlanta Fest, the South's largest Christian music festival. Celebrating its 15th anniversary, Atlanta Fest features all-day concerts, various seminars for youths and youth leaders, question-and-answer sessions with performers and a live talent search competition out of pre-selected bands. Some of the big name groups that will be in attendance this year include Third Day, dc talk, and Newsboys. "We are glad to be back," said festival director Chuck Tilley. "The eight years we were at Six Flags were wonderful and we always had great success here. The new management has been great to work with and we look forward to seeing the many great things the Lord has in store." For 15 years Atlanta Fest has presented more than 100 Grammy Award nominees, 300 Dove Award winners, and has gathered more than 500,000 people worldwide. Many of this year's artists are well known for the awards they have achieved at the 2001 Dove Awards. Third Day won the artist and group of the year awards, while Nicole C. Mullen won Dove awards for singer and song writer of the year. dc talk won the award for Modern Rock/Alternative recorded song for their song "Dive" and Rachel Lampa won the Dove Award for Inspirational Recorded Song for her hit "Blessed." The festival
kicks off today with performances from Spinaround, Aurora, Nikki Leonti,
Audio Adrenaline, Children of the World, Sonic Flood and more. Thursday
will feature bands like dc talk, Out of Eden, Luna Halo, Katy Hudson and
Kindred. Smalltown Poets, Pete Orta, Paige Lewis, Supertones and Third

By the Tree and Newsboys. Tickets are available at 1-800-783-8839 and include general park admission. Visit www.atlantafest.com for information. |
