Fayette Community Theatre brings 'Annie' to the stage By MICHAEL
BOYLAN
What do you do when you're stuck with a day that's gray and lonely? Go see Fayette Community Theatre's production of the Broadway hit "Annie." "Annie" tells the story of an orphan girl in New York City who teaches a grumpy millionaire to love again, while learning she can depend on people. The show is filled with musical numbers like "A Hard Knock's Life," "Little Girls," and, of course, "Tomorrow." The role of Annie has been double-cast and will be shared by two talented young ladies, Mallory Tarter and Nikki Jurecic. Tarter will play Annie during the June 21, 22, 30, July 1, 5 and 6 performances. Jurecic will be Annie June 23, 24, 28, 29 and July 7. Each young lady also will portray the orphan Pepper when the other is performing as Annie. "Annie"'s cast is comprised of two dogs and 45 actors, many of whom are handling two to three different roles. Fayette Community Theatre Inc.'s Joan Velsmid expects "Annie" to be "the most impressive production of our history." Velsmid is handling the direction of the show, while Millie Turek is the musical director and Jonsie Pollock is directing the choreography. "Annie" premieres at Starr's Mill High School Duke Auditorium Thursday, June 21, and runs through July 7. Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances begin at 8 p.m., and the two Sunday matinees at 3 p.m. (no matinee on the third weekend). General admission is $12. Children's tickets and Thursday performances are $10. For reservations, call 770-631-8568 or visit any Fayette County library. |
