Thursday Thunder offers affordable racing fun

Eagle 106.7 FM's Rhubarb Jones and his March Across Georgia will stop at this week's Thursday Thunder summer racing event at Atlanta Motor Speedway, providing race fans with the chance make a difference in the fight against leukemia and lymphoma.

In lieu of an autograph session, this week's featured division, the Young Guns, will go through the grandstands with their helmets, collecting money for Rhubarb's March Across Georgia. Rhubarb will be on hand to sign autographs from 6-7 p.m. and will stay for his first glimpse of Legends, Bandolero and Roadster racing.

The third week of Thursday Thunder will present nonstop racing action with a thrilling lineup of double features and double points in the second set of features. The first round of feature races, postponed from last week, will begin immediately after the gates open this Thursday at 6 p.m. The regularly scheduled features will follow.

This week's exciting intermission activity will feature "Throwdown Showdown match race" between Eagle 106.7 FM deejay Dallas McCade, Fox 5 sports reporter Karen Mayes and Atlanta Motor Speedway president Ed Clark. Fans can win exciting prizes each week at Thursday Thunder. Up for grabs this week are tickets to this November's Georgia-Pacific Winston Cup Qualifying and the ARCA 400 race, as well as a host of other great prizes, including dinner gift certificates, free haircuts and free oil changes from area businesses.

Local winners in last week's races included Fayetteville's Doug Ludwig who finished first in the Young Lions division, Fayetteville's Matt Cox and Briana Sharp, who finished eighth and ninth respectively in the bandits race, and Mike Sims of Fayetteville, who placed fifth in the Semi Pro B division. Senoia's Bubba pollard and Ronnie Tyson placed fifth and sixth respectively in the Semi Pro A division and Peachtree City's Reed Sorenson placed third in the Pro division.

Thursday Thunder is a fun and affordable activity for the whole family. Admission for adults is just $5, children 6-11 are $1, and children 5 and under are free. Gates open at 6 p.m., and the racing action will start immediately. For more information call 770-946-4211.
