Not only will the Braves, Beat and Silverbacks be hosting games throughout the month, but the Georgia Games will return, the Soccer Centre will host the 4-A Side Summer Championships and the 7/8 Division World Series will be played in McDonough. The Chick-fil-A 4-A Side Summer Championships will be a one-day indoor soccer tournament for boys and girls of all ages and talent levels. Each team is guaranted six eight-minute games. The main field will be divided into three mini fields and, with the addition of a small field, four games will be played simultaneously. Phone 770-460-8785. The 2001 Georgia Games Championships will take place at various sites in the metro Atlanta area July 14-22. More athletes compete in the Georgia games than in the Olympics and there will be more than 50 events for athletes to participate in. This year many of the athletes will have the chance to compete in some of the same venues that the athletes in the 1996 Olympics used. The games kick off with a block party July 14 at the Lincoln Tennis Center next to Stone Mountain State Park. The party will last from 4:30-7:30 p.m.; admission is $6 for adults and $4 for children and seniors prior to the event. Admission on the day of the event will be $9 for for adults and $7 for children and seniors. Phone 770-528-3582. The 7/8 Division World Series, showcasing the best teams in the country and Puerto Rico, will take place at South Cedar Park in McDonough July 25-29. The tournament will feature eight teams and will be double elimination. Opening ceremonies are Wednesday, July 25, and include a homerun derby, and outfield and infield competition. All games are open to the public. Tickets are $8 per session or $32 for the series. Phone 770-957-3915. |
