Local girls win national 2Ball competition By MICHAEL

Two local girls recently won the National NBA 2 Ball Championship. Kelsey Quinn, 12, and Erin Justice, 11, came out of a field of 225,000 participants from all over the country. They participated in four separate competitions to make the finals. 2Ball is played on a half court. Each team gets one minute to make as many baskets as possible from seven shooting spots, which are worth different point values, on the floor. Team mates must alternate taking shots and must pass or dribble whe moving between the shooting spots. Bonus points are awarded for teams that score from each of the seven shooting spots in the game. The girls represented the Atlanta Hawks and faced the team that represented the Utah Jazz. Quinn and Justice won 52-10. The competition took place at Nickelodeon Studios in Atlanta. The NBA flew the girls to Orlando for some sight seeing, filming and the competition. The girls met some NBA stars and the musical group Baha Men. A film crew from Nickelodeon came to the homes of the girls prior to the finals to get some background footage for the special and for promotional shots. The competition aired Sunday, June 10 and will most likely run agan this summer. 2Ball competitions are conducted by local recreation departments and sports teams several times a year. The competitions are open to boys and girls ages 7-15. |
