At 109, Miss Lizzie joins the UDC By CAROLYN
CARY
"Miss Lizzie" McEachern Brown, at the tender age of 109, was asked to join an organization that is just a few years younger than she. The United Daughters of the Confederacy was officially organized in 1894. The Frankie Lyle Chapter 2074 was organized in Jonesboro in 1934 and recently accepted an application from Brown for membership. Her father, Pleasant Marion McEachern, served in the War Between the States from Fayette County, joining Company I, 10th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry in April 1862. He was 16 years old. "We are very privileged," said President Linda Robinson, "to accept this application. It is an honor to personally get to know a "real daughter." For information on the chapter, call 770-969-0223.
