'Light the Night' set for Sept. 22 in Peachtree City

Organizers of a local fund-raiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society are seeking the participation of corporate teams.

The Light the Night Walk is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 22, beginning at Shakerag Knoll in Peachtree City. The walk, between two and three miles long, will take place in the evening and feature survivors and cancer patients who will hold glowing white balloons.

Participants raising $25 or more will carry an illuminated red balloon throughout the walk to signify their personal commitment to the cause.

State Rep. Kathy Cox is the honorary chairperson of the event.

Anyone interested in being a team captain is asked to contact the society at 770-438-6006, ext. 226. Each captain will receive a kit with information about forming a team. The first 25 team captains to sign up will receive a free T-shirt.

Funds raised will benefit the research and patient service programs of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, which covers Leukemia, Lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease or myeloma. Nearly 80 percent of the society's total expenditures directly fund its mission, making it one of the top-rated voluntary health agencies.

Leukemia remains the number-one disease-killer of children and it strikes 10 times as many adults.
