Volunteers sought for playground construction

Volunteers are being sought to help build the first phase of the Luther Holt Memorial All Children's Playground in Peachtree City.

The work is scheduled for Saturday, June 23, and Sunday, June 24 at Picnic Park, behind City Hall. Three installation experts and a representative of Hasley Recreation and Design Inc. will supervise teams of 15 people, with different teams doing work in the morning and afternoon.

By using community volunteers for construction, more money could be spent on the playground equipment, said committee chairperson Colleen Sugar. Most of the work will involve light lifting and the use of tools such as wrenches and screwdrivers.

The playground is designed to be accessible to children of all physical abilities.

About 25 people have signed on to help so far, Sugar said. Committee members have spoken to area civic and service clubs seeking volunteers, but more help is needed.

"We would like to have all 60 volunteers signed up a week or more before the installation date," she said.

To volunteer for the project, contact Sugar at 770-486-3772.
