Fayette Community Theatre Inc. has offered a director internship program for the past two years.

The program allows a graduating senior from a Fayette County school to direct a children's show with the support of a local theater, which will be performed during the Vacation Reading Program at the county libraries. Josh Kirby, a Fayette County high School graduate, is this year's director and the show this year is "Who's Afraid of the Big, Bad Wolf?"

Kirby has had a full career at Fayette County High, performing in shows like "A Night in the Ukraine," which took first in the region and third in the state in 1999-2000 and also got Kirby named Best Actor in the region and state; "The Man Who Came To Dinner;" "Twelfth Night," and "Roshomon."

While at FCHS, Kirby was also in the Select Chorus, was vice president of the Concord Men's Choir and was a member of Honors Chorus in 1998. You may have even seen him on a Speedway commercial.

He will continue his acting career this fall at Florida State University as he goes for a bachelor of fine arts degree with a focus on acting with 13 other students. Kirby is assited in the production by Emma Allmond, a sophomore at Starr's Mill High School who has been involved with theater for seven years.

"Who's Afraid of the Big, Bad Wolf" combines the tales of "The Three Little Pigs" and "Little Red Riding Hood." In both tales the wolf gets thwarted and this play focuses on him. Kirby says the show is coming along nicely. The greatest challenge he has faced so far is trying to teach the little pigs how to river dance.

"The kids are amazing," Kirby said. "They are very talented and work very well together."

"Who's Afraid of the Big, Bad Wolf?" will be presented at the Peachtree City Library June 19 at 9:30 and 10:45 a.m., at the Tyrone Library June 20 at 10:30 a.m., and at the Fayette County Library June 21 at 10 a.m.
