Intense racing action at Senoia Speedway

It was a night of celebration at Senoia Speedway over the Memorial Day weekend for Gainesville's Randy Bynum as he returned to victory lane after a 10-year hiatus.

Senoia Mayor Joan Trammell came out to join in the fun as the Honorary Starter for the 100-lap Bill Heard Big 8 Pro Late Model feature.

Bynum passed Newnan's Roger Delp with 36 laps remaining to record his first win of the 2001 season Saturday night. Fellow Gainesville driver Tony Bennet climbed through the field from his eighth row starting position to finish second with McDonough's Charles Shoemaker recovering from a mid-race spin to finish third.

Shoemaker, who graduated earlier in the day from Henry County High, posted a 13.930-second lap in qualifying, just a few ticks off his previous race qualifying run of 13.835 seconds. Pro Late Models will be off next week, but will return June 9.

Alan Happel won his second race in a row at Senoia Speedway Saturday night in the Bandeleros Feature. Sharpsburg's Matt Peeples finished second with Trey Maughan finishing third.

In fourth was Brandon Jackson with Brian Sharp rounding out the top five finishers.

It was Jonathan Davenport's first win of the season as he took control and never looked back on the fifth lap of the Legends Pro/Mast/SP I Feature Saturday at Senoia Speedway which went caution-free. Finishing second was Doug Stevens followed by Peachtree City's Reed Sorenson in third. Jason Tidwell and Hans Prosser finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Bobby East passed Michelle Theriault on the second lap for his first win of the season during the Legends CH/SP II feature Saturday at Senoia Speedway. The previous winner, Doug Ludwig, came from his eighth place starting position to finish second ahead of Cindy Anderson in third. Adam Quattlebaum finished fourth with Russ Emerick rounding out the top five.

Buford's Travis Hearn won his first race in only three starts in the Sportsman Feature at Senoia Speedway. Following Hearn across the finish line was LaGrange's Bob Yarbrough in second with Rod Williford of Union City finishing third. Brooks natives Mike Jenkins and Andy Cash finished fourth and fifth. This Saturday, the Sportsman Division race will be a double points special at Senoia Speedway.

Locust Grove's Robbie Gober went from flag to flag for his fourth win of the season in the Street Stock Division at Senoia Speedway. Senoia's Mark Lore finished a distant second with Keith Anderson from LaGrange in third. Another Senoia native, Ted Willingham, rendered a fourth-place finish with Landon DeGraff finishing fifth.

Fayetteville's Chris Weigman held off a last lap charge from second-place finisher Ty Stewart to record his first win of the season in the Mini Stock Division at Senoia Speedway after a three-year absence from victory lane. Finishing behind Stewart was Cary Hamilton in third followed by LaGrange's Shawn Mormon fourth and Mike Chambers fifth.

David Moore of Jonesboro recovered from a spin with six laps remaining for his second win of the season at Senoia Speedway in the Thunder Roadsters Feature. Second place went to Griffin's Lloyd Wittenburg with Lilburn's Dale Akridge in third. Finishing fourth and fifth were the father/son duo of Bob and Will Monette.
