Big names of rock 'n' roll in second part of Summer Concert Series By MICHAEL

The first part of the Summer Concert Series at the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater certainly had its share of big names and surprises, including appearances by Smokey Robinson, The Smothers Brothers and Paul Anka, but the second part promises a rocking good time with some legendary acts. The second part of the concert series begins Friday and Saturday, July 27 and 28, when Chuck Berry takes the stage. Berry had an enormous amount of influence at the dawn of rock 'n' roll, inspiring bands like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones with songs like "Johnny B. Goode," "School Day," and "Maybellene." The nights of Friday and Saturday, Aug. 10 and 11, will be perfect date nights as Bobby Vinton comes to Peachtree City. Vinton is known for his romantic songs that have become timeless classics, including hits like "Blue Velvet," "Roses Are Red," and "Mr. Lovely." The concert series then shifts into classic rock mode for the next two shows. The Marshall Tucker Band comes to town Friday and Saturday, Aug. 24 and 25. The band, based out of South Carolina, plays a blend of rock 'n' roll, blues and country that has helped define what many people know as country music. Their hits include the songs "Can't You See," "Fire on the Mountain" and "Desert Skies." Appearing Friday and Saturday, Sept. 7 and 8, America. The singing and song-writing team of Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell are known mainly for their most famous hit, "A Horse With No Name," but have also won a Grammy Award for Best New Artists, and have written such classic tunes as "Tin Man," "Ventura Highway" and "You Can Do Magic." Of course, the people at The Fred have saved the best for last. Drum roll, please. Friday and Saturday, Sept. 28 and 29, the bearers of "Good Vibrations," The Beach Boys, a group with more top 40 hits over the last four decades than maybe anyone. There are the surfing songs "Surfin' USA," "Surfer Girl," and "Surfin' Safari" and songs like "Help Me Rhonda," "Wouldn't It Be Nice" and "I Get Around." All shows start at 8 p.m. Tickets for the second part of the concert series are currently available to series ticket holders. The deadline for ticket renewals is Friday, June 1 at 5 p.m. Tickets will go on sale to the public Tuesday, June 12 at 9 a.m. Tickets will be $100 for the five-concert package.
