Holly Grove A. M. E. Church, south Peachtree City, recognized its place in history of observing National Historic Preservation Week.

The church's historic committee invited various churches in the area to participate in honoring the past. The Fayette County Historical Society displayed its pictures of churches that were 50 years old or older.

Committee member Gail Goode put together a display of pictures, programs and memorabilia commemorating Holly Grove's 104 years.

The Georgia Trust was represented by Beth Shorthouse, preservation department, and Alison Tyrer, communications director.

Shorthouse said that the Trust was very pleased at the number of various organizations in Georgia who took a moment to display their heritage. "We are proud to be at Holly Grove today and share in honoring its history," she said.

One display honored a former teacher at the old Holly Grove School, Senior DeVaughn Price. She also taught in the county public schools. Three of her children were present, Macy P. Blackburn, Clara P. Lamar and Augustra P. Gooden.

One of only three sites in Fayette County to be distinguished by a historical marker, Holly Grove's congregation was established in 1897 in the southern part of what is now Peachtree City.

The current pastor is the Rev. David Morrow.
