Fayette and Coweta County is representing itself very well in the AAAAA boys and girls state soccer tournaments. There are eight teams left, vying for a state title. In the girls bracket, four of the final eight are from Region 4-AAAAA, while the boys have three of the final eight. Should all of our local teams win their games this weekend, there will be regional rematches next week.

On Wednesday night, Starr's Mill's girls defeated Hardaway, 3-0, Fayette County's girls beat Lowndes, 5-0 and Newnan's Lady Cougars defeated Colquitt County, 5-0. The Lady Cougars got a hat trick from Lanie Scott and two goals from Amanda Morton to advance to the quarterfinals, while the Lady Tigers got goals from Rachel Frazier, Britni Emerson, Crystal Rene de Cotret, and two goals from Sarah Oxford in the second half. It is the third year in a row they Lady Tigers have made the quarterfinals. McIntosh's girls beat Griffin, 10-0 on Tuesday, getting goals from Julie Herdic, Tabitha Lowey, Jenny Jackson and Alicia Shulz.

The Starr's Mill girls will host Pope on Saturday at 7:30 p.m., while Fayette County hosts Walton at 7:30 p.m., McIntosh plays at Sprayberry and Newnan plays at Harrison at 1 p.m. Should all four teams advance, McIntosh would face Newnan and Starr's Mill would face Fayette County in the semifinals.

In AAAAA boys action, Fayette County beat Coffee, 2-1, Starr's Mill beat Griffin, 2-1, and McIntosh beat Warner Robins, 4-0. In the Chiefs game against Warner Robins, Matt Clements scored the 100th goal of his career. Clements broke the school career scoring record last year with 66. His 100 goals may be the most in Georgia High School history. To put 100 goals in perspective, MLS player and member of the U.S. National Team Josh Wolff scored 65 goals playing for Parkview High School. Other goals in the Chiefs victory came form Stephen Wilson, Omar Jarun and Robert Huefner.

The McIntosh boys will play at home on Friday night as they take on Parkview at 7 p.m. Fayette County will play at Milton and Starr's Mill will play at Brookwood. Both games are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and if both teams win they will face each other for the third time this season on Tuesday night.
