Movies

Opening Friday

A Knight's Tale The ads keep telling us how great this movie is and I believe them. Peter Travers of Rolling Stone is usually right on the money when reviewing flicks. This is the story of a young squire who uses his former master's name to become the best knight in France. Movies.com has said it is Gladiator meets Shakespeare in Love meets Robin Hood Men In Tights. Hey, two out of three ain't bad. Rated PG-13.

Now Playing

Along Came A Spider No, this has nothing to do with muffets or tuffets. Morgan Freeman reprises his role from the thriller Kiss The Girls and is out to catch a killer. Do you like this type of movie? Guess we know where you will be this weekend. Rated R.

Blow This film about the people behind the cocaine boom in the 1970s is getting the type of critical acclaim that Traffic received. Johnny Depp is the star, but the cast also includes Penelope Cruz, Ray Liotta and Paul (Pee Wee Herman) Reubens. It looks interesting. Rated R.

Bridget Jones Diary Rene Zellweger stars as Bridget Jones, a British lady who has her share of problems in love as well as in the work place. This film was really funny and aimed at the adults. Zellweger impresses me more and more each film and Hugh Grant was terrific as her sleazy boss. Rated R.

Crocodile Dundee In Los Angeles It's been 13 years since Mick Dundee has been on American soil and now he's back. The scene in the commercial with the clapper and the mosquito is hilarious. By the way, I'm being sarcastic. Rated PG.

Driven This looks like Rocky on wheels. The question is: Is this Rocky I on wheels or Rocky V? The racing sequences look incredible and Stallone's last few movies haven't been as bad as Schwarzenegger's last few movies. I hope this is good. Rated PG-13.

Enemy At The Gates Jude Law plays a Russian sniper who must battle a German sniper and a love triangle during World War II. Rated R.

Freddy Got Fingered Tom Green wrote, directed and stars in this film about a 27-year-old slacker who is forced to move home with his parents and then refuses to leave. This starts a war between Green and his father, played by the always brilliant Rip Torn. This was not very good. There were laughs, but there was also a lot of confusion. This is not at all like a real movie. Rated R.

Joe Dirt David Spade plays a red neck whose parents abandoned him early in life. This film follows his struggles as he continues his search for them as an adult. The previews look funny and Spade is starting to broaden his horizons as an actor. Rated PG-13.

Josie and the Pussycats Who asked for this one? The girls are cute in their kitty cat uniforms, but there's no Fred-like leader, Shaggy-like brother, mean-spirited jealous girl, or cat who gets into trouble. And it takes place on Earth and not in space. Will it be campy? Yes. Does that mean it will be good? I don't know. Rated PG-13.

Kingdom Come A comedy starring LL Cool J and Whoopi Goldberg. This is based on the play "Dearly Departed" that recently came to Fayette County, which was really funny. Rated PG.

One Night At McCool's Three men are in love with the same woman and come to realize their predicament (OK, all together now) One Night At McCool's. This looks interesting if only because Michael Douglas looks like his dad in it. Wait for some reviews, though. Rated R.

Someone Like You Ashley Judd's character gets dumped, so she moves in with a male coworker and starts writing a column about men and women. It sounds like Sex and the City: The Movie, but rated PG-13 and without Sarah Jessica Parker. Rated PG-13.

Spy Kids Yes! This movie is awesome. Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino are great as international spies/parents, while Alan Cumming, Tony Shalhoub and Teri hatcher are amazing as the bad guys. The kids steal the show though, as their portrayals of sparring siblings is both touching and hilarious. Robert Rodriguez wrote, directed, produced, operated the camera, edited and wrote part of the score for this film. His dedication to the movie shows. I am already waiting for the sequel, which begins filming in a few short months. Rated PG.

The Forsaken A vampire movie that goes along with the theory that vampirism is like an infection. An interesting theory, as long as there aren't montage sequences of people trying to invent an antibiotic. It just doesn't work (see Penicillin: The Movie). Rated R.

The Mummy Returns Set ten years after the original, Rick (Brendan Fraser) and his girl, Evelyn, are living in London and raising a son. Imhotep, the mummy, comes to a British Museum and starts raising cain. Meanwhile, the Scorpion king, (The Rock) rises from his grave and battles with Imhotep. The profits are sure to be raised as this is the only new movie to come out this week. My spirits are raised as the summer movie season has officially begun. Rated PG-13.

Town and Country This movie's release date has been pushed back a number of times, but the cast is almost too good to pass up (Diane Keaton, Goldie Hawn, Warren Beatty, Jenna Elfman ...). It is a mid-life crisis comedy about dating, divorce and all that hoo-hah, so be wary. Rated R.

Also Playing

Billy Elliot An English boy decides to try ballet instead of boxing. This is supposedly a very uplifting film. It did get several prestigious nominations. Rated PG-13.

Cast Away Tom Hanks stars as a man obsessed with time. That is, until his plane crashes and leaves him on a deserted island for four years. This is an amazing film and Hanks is awesome. Rated PG-13.

Double Take A comedy about mistaken identities starring Eddie Griffin and Orlando Jones. Think 48 Hours meets Midnight Run meets a 7-Up commercial. Rated PG-13.

Down To Earth Chris Rock stars as a stand up comic who dies before his time and returns to Earth in the body of a crotchety old white man. I hear this is funny, but not as funny as it could have been. After all Chris Rock is in it and it is rated PG-13. He's better when he's not holding back. Rated PG-13.

Just Visiting A remake of a French comedy about a knight and his squire who are transported to modern times. This movie was Americanized by John Hughes, so expect lots of slapstick humor. Rated PG-13.

Miss Congeniality Sandra Bullock stars as an FBI agent who goes undercover to catch a crook at a beauty pageant. I do not enjoy these types of movies, but several females have told me they thoroughly enjoyed this. Rated PG-13.

See Spot Run David Arquette stars in this gross comedy for the kids. He plays a goofy mailman that adopts a former FBI dog that is in the witness protection program. Think Home Alone with a dog. Rated PG.

The Emperor's New Groove A very funny Disney film starring David Spade and John Goodman. The animation is excellent and the story about friendship and loyalty is timeless. Rated G.

The Mexican Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts star in this action comedy about a gun. Pitt and Roberts only share the screen for about 10 minutes, but I hear this is a pretty good film. Rated R.

The Wedding Planner Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey star in this romantic comedy about a man who ditches his bride to be for the wedding planner. How hilarious. Rated PG-13.

What Women Want Mel Gibson gains a power where he can read women's minds. One thing he knows is that they all want to see this movie. Rated PG-13.
