There is a special feeling of unity when a town comes together and presents a festival.

People spend the day playing games, eating good food, enjoying the weather, listening to music and supporting the craft work of their friends and neighbors.

Brooks will have its 19th annual Brooks Day Arts and Crafts Festival and 10K Road Race this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and for some it is an event they have waited anxiously for.

The day starts with the 10K road race. The festival itself truly kicks off when the awards are presented at 10 a.m. After the awards are given out, the Ramblin' Rose Band takes the stage at 10:30 a.m. They will play their special brand of feel-good music several other times during the festival at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30, 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. Other musical guests include Leah Earwood and Chad Terry at 12:30 p.m. and the Allen Goodman Band at 6 p.m.

There will also be lots of dancing at the festival. The sassy Senior Line Dancers take the stage at 11 a.m., while Miss Patsy's Georgia Belles perform at 1 p.m., Kids From Brooks at 2 p.m., the Country Jamboree Cloggers perform at 3 p.m. and the Southside Country Strutters perform at 4 p.m.

The day won't be all music and dancing, though. At noon, a Civil War re-enactment will take place, complete with costumes and cannons. There will also be games galore, arts and crafts and refreshments. Best of all, admission to the festival is free.

That night will be the Brooks Day dance and Hog in the Park barbecue. Buy a ticket for a barbecue dinner for two with music and dancing for $100 and qualify for a chance to win a 2001 Harley Davidson Fat Boy, $4,000 in cash prizes and more.

For information on the festival or registration for the race, call 770-719-7799.
