Local girls qualify for state track meet By MICHAEL

The region meets for girls' track teams were held Saturday and Monday and Fayette County schools will have a number of representatives at the state tournaments next weekend. In the 4-AAAAA meet, Fayette County placed fifth overall, Starr's Mill placed seventh and McIntosh finished 11th. The Lady Tigers will send two representatives to the stste meet; Megan Byrd who placed first in the high jump with a jump of 5'6" and Erica Hall, who placed second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.54. Starr's Mill and McIntosh will each send one girl to the state meet. Evita Smith from McIntosh placed first in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.59, while Starr's Mill's Ashley Meredith won the 3,200 meter with a time of 12:06.88. In the 4-AAAA meet, Sandy Creek placed fourth overall with 60.5 points. They will send two girls in individual events and two relay teams to the state meet. Rae Lynch won the 800 meter dash with a time of 2:30.44, while Jessica White placed second in the 300 meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 48.40. The 4x400 meter relay team placed second with a time of 50.91 and the 1,600 meter relay team placed first with a time of 4:11.62.
