Local teams have top performers in region track meet

The Region 4-AAAAA boys track meet was held at Starr's Mill last Saturday and Monday.

Stockbridge won the meet with Riverdale coming in second.

Starr's Mill finished the best for our local teams, placing fourth with 46 points, while McIntosh placed fifth with 34 points. Fayette County placed 14th with 22 points.

These teams did produce several top finishers. Fayette County's Trey Alverson placed first in the 1,600 meters and the 3,200 meters, while McIntosh's Shaun Emery placed second in both races.

Ben Brantley, another McIntosh runner, placed third in the 800 meter dash with a time of 2:00.6, while Sean Heaton, also of McIntosh, placed first in the pole vault with a vault of 11'6".

Reuben Houston took first place in the long jump with a jump of 22'10.75", and first place in the triple jump with a jump of 46'9". Jason Laney, another member of the Starr's Mill squad, placed second in the shot put with a throw of 50'2".

The region meet for the girls will be held this weekend at Starr's Mill and the state meet will be held the following weekend.
