Starr's Mill and McIntosh set up double header of soccer in region championship By MICHAEL

As you are reading this, there is a Region 4-AAAAA champion for boys and girls. The games were played last night at 6 and 8 p.m. at Starr's Mill. The results are on our Web site, www.thecitizennews.com. Tuesday night, McIntosh's boys and girls qualifed for the region final. The boys defeated Lovejoy 4-0, while the girls beat Newnan 9-0. Matt Clements and Robert Hefner each netted two goals for the boys. Julie Herdic scored six goals in the win, while Tabitha Lowey added two and Melanie Schneider added one. Across town, Starr's Mill's Lady Panthers beat Fayette County 4-0, while the boys beat Fayette County 5-2. The Lady Panthers got goals from Alison Graham, Lindsey Wegryzyn, Shelley Wegryzyn and Sara McGlaughlin. Last night, McIntosh's boys and girls played at Starr's Mill for the region championship, while Fayette County hosted Lovejoy and Newnan for the third place in the region. Each of the teams that played Tuesday night has qualified for the state tournament, which will begin Wednesday, May 2. |
