The Region 4-AAAAA tennis tournament was held at Clayton College and State University last Thursday and Friday, though it was as if it were played in McIntosh High School's backyard. The boys and girls teams only lost one game in all of their matches in the tournament, as Priscilla Roberts fell to Fayette County's Kacie Anson, 10-7.

McIntosh's boys faced Evans and Lovejoy in the first and second round and Jonesboro and Fayette County in the semi-finals and finals. B.J. James, Robert Lochridge and James Dwyer were the 1-3 singles players for the Chiefs, while Mike Saheim and Sundeep Sood and Justin hale and Phil Van Fossan were the 1-2 doubles teams. The 1-3 singles players for the girls were Priscilla Roberts, Rebecca Timmis and Denise Daughenbaugh, while Adriane Hodges and Sunya Sweeney and Shelby Carlson, Stacey Brundrette and Renae Clarke shared duties as the 1-2 doubles teams.

With the ultimate goal of capturing the state championship on may 12 at Stone Mountain, Coach kelly Baker continually stresses the importance of developing a cohesive team. Lochridge adds, "We have to play like a team, eeryone working together towards one goal." When asked what secret weapon McIntosh might use to get to and win the state finals, Lochridge said, "We're just going to win more sets than our competition."

The first round of the state playoffs will be held at the Peachtree City Tennis Center at a date to be announced later this week.
