Local racers continue to dominate at Senoia Speedway

Chad Caldwell was victorious for the first time this season as he dominated the Alan Vigil Southlake Ford 50 at Senoia Speedway last Saturday night. Caldwell is racing the number 5 in memory of his late father who wore this number on his basketball jersey all the way to the State Playoffs with East Coweta High School.

Caldwell, from Senoia, qualified second with a 13.931 second lap while last week's winner, Scott Griffin, took the Budweiser Pole Award with a 13.858 lap. Griffin rolled a one putting Caldwell in the front of the pack where he remained the entire 50 laps. "I only kept on driving because I wanted to win so bad," said Caldwell after a few entanglements during the night left his car working against him.

Gainesville's Randy Bynum followed Caldwell to the line finishing a close second with Tyrone's Scott Griffin in third. Troy French and Warren Mobley finished fourth and fifth rounding out the top five.

This Saturday Senoia Speedway's second Pro Late Model, Big 8 Series, 100 lap race returns paying $3,000 to the winner.

Brandon Jackson led all 15 laps to take the checkers in last week's Bandolero Division race at Senoia Speedway. Finishing second was last season's champion, Sharpsburg's Matt Peeples. Following Peeples to the line was third place finisher Chris Dilbeck with Troy Maughan in fourth. Ryne Gattlin got tangled up in a first lap mishap but came back finishing fifth while Sharpsburg's Marcia Bristol finished sixth.

Andy James recorded his first win of the 2001 season at Senoia Speedway after passing second place finisher Chris Vaughn on lap six of 25 in the Legends Pro/Master/SP I Division Race Saturday night. Finishing third was Senoia's Nick Hill with Jason Tidwell and Jeff Hanie fourth and fifth.

Doug Ludwig won his second race in as many weeks at Senoia Speedway Saturday in the Legends Charger/SP II Division. Ludwig started eighth and took the lead on lap 19 with 6 laps remaining. Finishing second was Craig Zoellner with Bobby East in third. Preston Seagraves was fourth with Michelle Theriault finishing fifth to round out the top five.

Newnan's Steve Payton came back to win the Sportsman division race at Senoia Speedway Saturday night after a late race mishap that wiped out a few members of the field. In second was Tom Smith with Bob Yarborough in third. Mike Hillman finished fourth with Rod Williford in fifth.

Locust Grove's Robby Gober passed Hampton's Sammy Barge on the white flag lap to take the checkers at Senoia Speedway Saturday night in the Street Stock Division. Gober was disqualified after the race for a fuel cell infraction awarding the win to Barge. Awarded second was Stan Barge with Larry Pierce, Mark Lore and Keith Adams finishing third through fifth.

Jonesboro's Cary Hamilton passed Darrell Carlson for the lead six laps into the 25 lap Mini Stock feature to record his second win of the season at Senoia Speedway.
