Soccer playoffs start this weekend By MICHAEL

The soccer playoffs begin tonight and McIntosh and Starr's Mill's boys and girls are both back on the road to repeat as state champions, except this year the two schools stand in each other's way. It is also important not to discount the other teams from Region 4-AAAAA who will present obstacles as well. Newnan's Lady Cougars will open up the region playoffs tonight against Jonesboro at Tara Stadium. The Lady Cougars won their last two games 9-0 against Lovejoy and 6-2 against McEachern and they are hungry. A key player for Newnan is lanie Scott who scored nine of her team's 15 goals in the last two games. If Newnan wins, they will be the first team in Coweta County history to head to the state playoffs. The Newnan boys will face Starr's Mill's boys at Starr's Mill at 8 p.m. The Fayette County girls outscored their last two opponents 19-0. They defeated Riverdale 15-0 in 32 minutes, getting goals from eight different players. On Tuesday night in the regular season finale, the Lady Tigers blanked Stockbridge, 4-0. They outshot Stockbridge 38-2 and got goals from Rachel Frazier, Amy Eller and Christine Wix. Fayette County will host Stockbridge again tonight at 6 p.m. Sandy Creek's girls have made the state tournament. The Lady Patriots defeated Rockdale County 4-1 on Tuesday night, getting two goals from megan rast, and one goal a piece from Jenna Thomason and Julie Otwell. Sandy Creek will play in the region tournament on Tuesday against Salem High School at 5:30 p.m. The game will be played at Reid Stadium. To get there from Sandy Creek, take Hwy. 74 to I-85 North. Take I-285 East to I-20 East and then exit at Exit 82. Turn left and go to the third stoplight. Turn left on to American legion Road and then turn left on to Pine Log Road. The stadium is on the right. The McIntosh girls defeated North Gwinnett, 8-0 on Tuesday night. It was their senior night and the seniors were able to celebrate another undefeated season in region play. The Lady Chiefs will host Henry County at 5:30 p.m. tonight. McIntosh's boys also enter the region tournament as the number one seed in the west. The Chiefs will host Henry County's boys team after the girls game. McIntosh's games will be at the Baseball/Soccer Complex on Ga. Hwy. 74 in Peachtree City. Starr's Mill's boys and girls are the number one seeded teams from the east and both teams are undefeated in their region play as well. The girls are scheduled to host East Coweta at 6 p.m., while the boys will host Newnan at 8 p.m. |
